Antigravity Skills vs Claude Native Skills: What’s the Difference?

When you start using Claude Code, two categories of skills: native skills that ship with Claude and community-built skills and community-built skills distributed through the Antigravity registry. Understanding the difference helps you build a more productive workflow.

How Claude Skills Actually Work

Documentation Pipeline

Using the native pdf skill for extraction and an Antigravity docx skill for document generation gives you the stability of native tools with the flexibility of community extensions.

Test Coverage Workflow

The native tdd skill handles unit tests; the Antigravity webapp-testing skill covers browser-level integration. Both are invoked the same way — the only difference is where the .md file came from.

Neither type is universally better. Native skills offer stability and deep integration. Community skills offer flexibility and specialized functionality. Most productive setups combine both: native skills for daily tasks, carefully selected Antigravity skills for specific needs.

When evaluating a community skill, read the .md file itself before using it. Since skills are plain Markdown, you can see exactly what instructions they give Claude — which is the most direct way to assess quality.
